Requirements for Incoming Students Effective Fall 2026
For A.A. and A.S. Degrees
SUNY General Education requirements promote broad intellectual, cultural, and social development integrated with the specific goals of individual degree programs. To fulfill SUNY General Education requirements for an A.A. or A.S. degree at Cayuga, students must complete 30 credits of General Education courses in at least 7 of the 10 categories. In addition, students must demonstrate the three required core competencies of Critical Thinking and Reasoning, Information Literacy with Artificial Intelligence, and Civic Discourse. Refer to the program description to find the specific categories needed to meet the requirements of a particular degree program.
For A.A.S. Degrees
To fulfill SUNY General Education requirements for an A.A.S. degree at Cayuga, students must complete at least 20 credits of General Education coursework in the four required areas of Communication (Written and Oral); Diversity: Equity, Inclusion, and Social Justice; Mathematics and Quantitative Reasoning; and Natural Sciences and Scientific Reasoning. In addition, students must demonstrate the three required core competencies of Critical Thinking and Reasoning, Information Literacy with Artificial Intelligence, and Civic Discourse.
