BIOL 231 – Intro to Bioinformatics (3)
Prerequisites: BIOL 103 or 211. 3 credits. Practical introduction to bioinformatics tools and databases for analysis of DNA, RNA, and protein sequences. Emphasis on sequence search and alignment (BLAST, Clustal), use of GenBank/NCBI resources, basic gene prediction and annotation, and application of sequence analysis to industry workflows including PCR/cloning, and simple phylogenetics. Students complete an independent data analysis project. NSCI
